Avocado from cuttings

Hello all.
Not sure if this has been covered but I need some info. Having read from many websites, apparently it's possible to grow a avocado tree from cuttings. The problem is that people saying fruiting won't occur until 8 years or more. I thought the whole idea was to clone from parent and also have fruits quick( like citrus cuttings). I mean is this true even if the cutting is from a fruit bearing mature tree??. I would love to know a short cut for quick fruiting as living in the uk even keeping a tree alive for 8years would be an accomplishment. Thanks guys
