Je me suis procurer un plant aujourd'hui. Un Giant finger lime, je me demande si c'est un dérivé d'un faustrime ou d'un vrai caviar. Ma pépinière ignore ce qu'est un faustrime (on est au Québec ici). Il s'est procurer l'arbre dans une plantation en Floride. La plantation en question écrit sa sur son site:

En lisant le texte je me dit que le département d'agriculture doit avoir prélevé le bourgeons sur un vrai australasica et non un faustrime, cependant mes feuilles ont une odeur de citronnelle

I have been growing finger limes for around 25 years when few people had ever heard of them. I have visited Australia several times to find them growing wild, and have been in contact with many growers over there. None of them have ever reported fruits anything like the ones described in your post. I do not believe a true finger lime could ever produce a sport with such fruits.
However, as soon as a finger lime is grown in close proximity to other citrus it can easily be cross-fertilised. Seedlings can then carry any number of intermediate characteristics and fruit shapes.
I have also seen plants for sale as 'finger limes' which are clearly faustrimes. I guess the bigger fruits make them more appealing to some buyers and for the growers they are very easy to propagate from seeds or cuttings.
So, à mon avis, your giant finger lime is not a true finger lime but a hybrid of it.

C’est une branche différente du reste de la plante à cause d’une mutation. Parfois, ça fait des fruits aux caractéristiques intéressantes (quand on regarde les variétés d’oranges sur Citrus Pages, on voit que beaucoup ont été propagées à partir de mutations spontanées, qui diffèrent de l’original par leur précocité ou leur caractère tardif entre autres exemples).

I think the only ways to have one will buy seeds on the net and cross fingers that will not hybrids.
